Mini Cooper Maintenance
Below are recommendations as set by MINI of North America (applies to both Cooper and Cooper S models unless noted otherwise):
• Replace brake fluid every 2 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date)
• Replace coolant every 4 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date)
• Replace oxygen sensor every 100,000 miles
• Replace spark plugs every 100,000 miles
Oil Service:
• Change engine oil and filter
• Replace microfilter (cabin air filter)
• Check thickness of front and rear brake pads
• Check parking brake actuation; adjust if necessary
• Reset service interval indicator
• Road test with check of brakes, suspension, steering, clutch/manual or automatic transmission
Inspection I:
• Includes all items listed under Oil Service and the following items below:
• Check transmission for leaks
• Change CVT (automatic) transmission fluid (applies only to Cooper models)
• Inspect half-shafts; check for leaks at flexible boots
• Visually check fuel tank, lines and connection for leaks
• Inspect exhaust system and check for leaks
• Inspect power steering system for leaks; check p/s fluid level, add if necessary
• Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc
• Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning
• Check all tire pressures (including spare if equipped); correct if necessary
• Check condition of tires, tread wear and pattern
• Read out diagnostic system
• Inspect engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks; check coolant level, add if necessary
• Check level of brake fluid in reservoir, add if necessary
• Check windshield washer fluid level, add if necessary
• Check air conditioner operation
• Check battery state-of-charge
• Check lighting system (headlights, fog lights, parking, back-up, license plate, interior, glove box, illuminated make-up mirrors, luggage area lights)
• Check instrument panel and dashboard illumination
• Check all warning/indicator lights, check control
• Check turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer/flasher switch
• Check windshield and tailgate wipers and washer systems; wiper blades, washer jet positions
• Check condition and function of safety belts
• Check central locking system
• Check operation of all latches
• Check heater/air conditioner blower fan, rear window defogger
• Check rear view mirrors
• Visually examine the SRS airbag units for torn covers, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations or accessories
• Visually check shock absorbers for leaks
Inspection II:
• Includes all items listed under Inspection I and the following items below:
• Replace intake air cleaner element
• Replace poly V-belt
